One month and a day.

Indeed, it has been that long since this place was last updated.

Recently, the un-members of Un-Band went to watch Wall E with a few gatecrashers. Wait let me rephrase that to make it more palatable.

I mean-

Uh.

Ah yes.

A few un-classmates from the un-past.

Supposedly our keyboardist, the organiser of this particular event, was being democratic. However, his tallying of votes fail. But that is another matter altogether.

So anyway.

Teh show was awesome even though technically (and on a very technical sense) the majority went to the Clone Wars.

To end off, here's the new song of the day.

Coldplay for the win.

Well well, z = a(ss) + ib and all that.

Album of the Day

Once again, the wonderfully stealthy (in band jamming recordings too) Matt has struck again.

And since we have a Song of the Day and Band of the Day updated recently, here's three cheers for an Album of the Day.

Jimmy Eat World - Chasing This Light (2007)

And here's one of the singles from their album.

Band of the Day

This is not the song of the day. Its time Mute Math took a break.
So today's chart topper is... SALVADOR!

This song is Lord I Come Before You
Its really sleek, an overall good performance.

Back to the awesome band. Its got lovely brasses to add that tang to their music. Yes. I like their music. Credit to macandcheese for introducing them.

Song of the day

Heres another Song of the Day which would probably be the Song of the Day for the next many Days!

Band: Simple Plan
Song: Take my hand

This song has an awesome intro / riff lol. This can be a possible candidate for our next jamming? Btw, I couldnt find the official music vid, so i got this instead, which allows you to sing along haha. Enjoy.

jam session 30th june 2008

Good job guys. Wanna thank Avery Khoo for coming down, made an excellent roadie/sound guy. We got one song up on myspace (http://www.myspace.com/weareunband). It's an instrumental cover of "Afterglow" by Finding Michelle, thanks to them for the song. It really doesn't follow the song much, just slightly. A few mistakes here and there, but we were messing around quite a bit and yup for a first it's definitely not bad in my opinion :). Please go listen and give your feedback

My taste in drum "gear"

Playing battle of the bands on facebook has inspired me to write a bit about my taste in drum stuff. Well my set up is really simple, I use a cheap(well not that cheap, but some weird taiwan brand) set, it's maple wood. 14" wood snare, 16" floor tom, and I think a 12 and 13 rack tom. So my set up is a very standard jazz kinda set up, I use only the 12" and 16" toms. Now comes the expensive-r part.

Cymbals:
Started out with cheapo Paiste 101s. For people with a real tight budget I actually think the ride's not too bad for ... anything but crashing. Quite dark sound, but that's probably just because its lousy and has no tone so it sounds flat and dry.

I've got a 16" Avedis Fast Crash, wouldn't recommend that to anybody. Regret getting it kinda. It's only really nice for malleting, you get this really grand big sound that you wouldn't expect from a fast crash.
Next up are my 14" A Custom Projection Hats. Very "chicky", with a large bell. Loud. Not recommended for home sets, but I think they're pretty good for rock/heavier genres when gigging.
And my prized possession, a 20" K Custom Medium Ride which I only purchased a few months back. It's a rather versatile ride, but more towards the jazz side. Does not complement my hats at all. The ride sounds either awesome or aweful, depending on the song. But the bell is very nice.

Pedals:
I use Pearl Eliminators, the P-2002Cs. Err I'm not very good at double pedalling though. They're nice pedals, smooth and they look good too. Preferred them to the iron cobras (Tama). Durability wise it's been reviewed pretty well, not too pricey either.

Sticks:
Ah a drummer's arsenal of woody things. I have not found a pair of nylon tipped sticks that I like. I mainly switch between Vater Manhatten 7As and Zildjian Jazz woodtips. Err also have got a pair of zildjian horacio "el negro" hernandez sticks. Those are really thin. Can't remember what the other pair is, some artist series as well. Bascially I like 7A-ish sized sticks. Oh I've also got the cool Hard Rock Cafe Chicago sticks that Chin bought me but I can't bear to trash them so I'll keep em nice and un used.
Mallets are double sided (other end have wood tips), ZIldjian John Riley's I think.
Promark brushes, hot rods. Regarding rods, I recommend Cool Rods (Promark) or Vic Firth Rutes which I used to have...it's just a matter of getting the right size.

And that sums up my drum gear. peace.

Artist of the Day

Today's artist of the day (not that there is a regular artist of the day or anything) is Mute Math. This song's called typical.

For the sake of the more ignorant people such as myself, the band basically recorded the music video backwards (singing, playing everything backwards). Then when they broadcast the music video they play it backwards from backwards which means its normal in sound but the video is actually backwards. If you understood that good job :). But of course they play the proper audio track over the recorded video which explains the flawless audio, but most of the video coincides.

Not to be outdone

I will not fail to mesmerize you with my pro guitar skillz.

That is, if you can actually hear me when we jam.

Song List #1

Alright so for the upcoming jam, we'll have Rob on bass. I want two electrics, or at least one acoustic and one electric, so the second guitarist can at least be heard. Matt can join us I guess provided you learn the songs. Please and try and bring amps... You guys want pianorokr down or not?

List of songs from last session that we should be able to play:
1. Butterfly
2. This Love
3. What I've Done

Songs that I want to try (feel free to add to the list)
1. Into the Night - Santana feat Chad Kroeger
but don't know whether this is feasible

2. Baby when you're gone - Bryan Adams
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-0IeJMfFKg
the live versions are cooler, but he gets fans to sing with him and they kinda suck. Listen to the live version especially for bass and stuff

3. Can't take my eyes off of you :D - Just watch the muse cover la, original by frankie valli i think

Yeah that's my input for now. We should work on our vocals and dynamics, and start to explore other genre's. Need to get to a level where we can just hear the song and make it our own.

One suggestion for jamming was this friday, err end by 5 preferably?

The June Hols are round the corner.

Lady and Gentlemen, the time has come once again where we are able to sit back and enjoy a short-lived break from the long hours spent in school (well, not really but..) We do have a few more weeks before it actually arrives, and im suggesting the we should jam sometimes during the hols!

Personally, I (R³), am not free for the first week of june<-- ( not first wk of hols i think) and from the 16-18 june.
Yes pls reply those who are keen and the dates you can make it. =) (we welcomes random people to come to spice up the music... pls dont stop the music, the music, the music)

And.. suggest some songs we shld jam =)
And And... wanna record it?
